
Panthers Take Season Opener Over Robert Morris, 3-1

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh men’s soccer team broke in the 2009 season with a 3-1 win over Robert Morris University here today on the Colonials campus. Three second half goals propelled the squad to its first season-opening win since the 2004 opener.
After a scoreless first half, senior Matt Baker scored off an indirect kick from the short right corner in the 67th minute to put the Panthers on top 1-0. Five minutes later, senior Michael McDade widened the margin to 2-0 after taking a deflected ball and ripping a shot low right past a diving Toba Bolaji.
Freshman Alex Fischetti made it 3-0 Pitt in the 86th minute, sending a laser into the left corner of the goal for his first collegiate goal.
The Colonials broke up the Pitt shutout when Sam Colosimo took a Kyle McIvor pass from the left side and found the back of the net in the 87th minute.
The Panthers will be in action next in the West Virginia Tournament on Friday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 6. Pitt will take on the University at Buffalo Friday at 5 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at 11 a.m.
