FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Mycaiah Clemons, a senior on the University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team and two-time Big East Conference champion competed at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships yesterday, running in the 100 meter hurdles.
Clemons ran a sub-14 second race for the fifth time this outdoor season, finishing in sixth in 13.99 in heat one of the preliminaries. The top three from each heat plus the next best six times advanced to semifinal action, leaving Clemons just on the outside looking in.
Clemons produced four top-five finishes this outdoor season in the 100 meter hurdles, including a fifth place finish at the prestigious Texas Relays, April 1-4. Her time of 13.29 in Texas was the seventh fastest 100 meter hurdle time of the season at that point.
Two weeks later, at the Morgan State Legacy meet, Clemons helped the Panther women to the team championship, running a 13.64 to capture second place overall. She won her second Big East title of the year at the 2009 Big East Outdoor Championship meet in Villanova, Pa., clocking a 13.59 despite unfavorable weather conditions.
After running a 14.25 at the ECAC Championship meet and taking fifth place, Clemons bounced back at the NCAA East Regional, running a sub-14 second race for the fourth time this season, finishing in 13.70 for 13th place.
The race caps an all-star season for the senior, who was also named the Big East Conference’s Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on two occasions this season.
