Two Panthers Earn Top-15 Finishes at East Regionals

GREENSBORO N.C. — Two University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team members competed at the 2009 NCAA East Regional track meet hosted by North Carolina A&T this weekend in Greensboro, N.C.
Florida State captured the team title with 71 points while Penn State followed close behind with 60 points for second place. Miami (51), Florida (48) and Virginia Tech (42) rounded out the top five.
In the 200 meter dash, Cambrya Jones ran a 23.76 to finish fourth in the prelims. In the finals, Jones ran a 24.25, finishing in eighth place. Nicole Cherry was the second Panther to collect a top-15 finish over the weekend, placing 14th in the javelin with a mark of 43.13 meters.
Mycaiah Clemons ran a 13.70 in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing 13th while Brianna Broyles competed in the 400 meter hurdles, running a 1:04.87. Janessa Murphy finished 16th in the long jump with a leap of 5.87 meters.
