PITTSBURGH- After producing several IC4A/ECAC qualifiers and two NCAA qualifiers in multiple meets that took place last weekend, the Panthers will hit the road once again as athletes travel to Lewisburg, Pa. or Knoxville, Tenn. in hopes of hitting more post-season qualifying times.
All eyes should be on Nicole Cherry and Mycaiah Clemons. Both turned in qualifying marks for the NCAA regional championships in their last meet. Cherry qualified in the javelin at the Aggie Relays and broke the meet record with a toss of 47.69 meters. Clemons ran a 13.29 in the 100-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays, the seventh fastest time in the NCAA this season which qualified her for regional competition. She was also named Big East Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, her second time receiving the award this season.
Matt Raquet also added to Pitt’s success last weekend at the Aggie Relays. Raquet placed second in the javelin and broke the meet record. His distance of 58.81 meters also made him an IC4A qualifier.
The Bison Outdoor Classic, hosted by Bucknell University in Lewisburg, will begin Fri. April 10 at noon with the decathlon and will wrap up on Saturday. Clarion, Cornell, Duquesne, Maryland, and Penn State are among the teams that will be competing at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
