Panthers Wrap Up Competition at New Balance Collegiate Invitational

NEY YORK, N.Y. — The University of Pittsburgh track and field teams wrapped up competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational held in New York, N.Y. at the Armory this past weekend.
On the men’s side Greg Kareis completed the one mile run in a time of 4:21.58, less than five seconds off his season-best time. Dontave Cowsette ran his second-fastest time of the season in the 800 meter run, finishing at 1:57.96.
In the men’s 5,000 meter run, Josh Christopher and Teddy Miller both placed in the top 10. Christopher shattered his previous season-best time of 15:09.5, crossing the line at 14:43.57 for third place while Miller placed seventh in a time of 15:05.25. Eric Jones turned in a season-best 15.13 meters in the triple jump to lead the Panthers.
Also setting season-best marks on the women’s side were Kari Hedderick, Susan Martinez and Janessa Murphy. Hedderick and Martinez finished within one second of each other in the 800 meter run, with Martinez running a 2:17.48 and Hedderick a 2:18.78. Anita James led the Panther women in the triple jump with a mark of 11.89 meters, edging out teammate Murphy, who leapt a season-best 11.88 meters.
The women’s 4x400 meter relay team posted its second-fastest time of the season, finishing in fifth place at 3:48.10. Sarah Anderson led the women in the field events with a heave of 14.92 meters in the women’s weight throw.
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be competing at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas and the Akron Invitational hosted by Akron Feb. 13-14.
