Pitt Hosts its Blue Gold Meet Today

PITTSBURGH,,?Pitt’s men’s and women’s track and field teams open the indoor season with its annual two-day Blue and Gold intrasquad meet this weekend. The competition will begin on Friday, Dec. 4, at 3:30 p.m. in the Cost Center and will then continue at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Fitzgerald Field House. The Blue and Gold meet is open to the public and admission is free. Pitt will be sponsoring a canned good drive to benefit a homeless shelter and families in need.
Sprinters Cambrya Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and Anita James (Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mt. West) will be key contributors to the women’s squad. Last season as a freshman, Jones placed third in the 200 meter dash at the Big East Championships and was an ECAC qualifier. Additionally, James placed in both the long and triple jump at the Big East meet.
The team will also look to junior Da’Lynn Mills (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley), who placed fourth in the 200 meter dash at last season’s Big East Championships.
The men’s squad will rely on junior Antony Hobwana (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School), who finished fifth at last year’s Big East Championships.
In his rookie season, Jermaine Lowery (Sharon Hill, Pa./Father Judge) placed in the 400 meter dash at the Big East meet, while Josh Christopher (Irwin, PA/Penn-Trafford) will be a key contributor to the men’s distance squad.
Sarah Anderson (Shamong, NJ/Seneca), a Big East and ECAC qualifier, will lead the women in the throws, while Garrett Larkin (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) and Dan Kwiatkowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) will be the go-to contributors for the men’s squad.
