• Captains elected for the season are WR #1 Cedric McGee, LB #8 Adam Gunn, TE #80 Nate Byham, OL #74 John Malecki, DL #93 Gus Mustakas, and DL #95 Mick Williams.
• Pitt’s 8-1 start marks the best for a Panther team since the 1982 season. After nine games, the 1982 team was also 8-1.
• Today’s game marked the first career start for TE Mike Cruz.
• Dan Hutchins’ 45-yard field goal in the second quarter matches his career high. He also kicked a 45-yard field goal at Rutgers this season.
• LB Greg Williams’ 51-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter is the third of his career, and second this season (50-yd fumble recovery for a TD vs. Buffalo).
• TE Dorin Dickerson’s 118 yards receiving is a career high (71 vs. Buffalo was the previous high).
• The last time a tight end recorded 100 yards receiving was Erik Gill, who had 126 yards receiving on two catches on Dec. 4, 2004 at USF.
• With Dickerson’s 10 TD receptions on the year, he set the Pitt tight end record for touchdown receptions, breaking Kris Wilson’s record of nine set in 2003.
• RB Dion Lewis’ third quarter 1-yard TD run gives him 12 rushing TDs this season. Including his one receiving TD, Lewis’ 78 points scored on the year ties him with Tony Dorsett for second place on Pitt’s all-time freshman scorers list.
Entering the game, Lewis had been tied for third with Larry Fitzgerald (72 pts.).
• Lewis’ 110 yards rushing on the day gives him six 100-yard rushing games on the season.
• Lewis’ season total of 1,139 rushing yards ties Avon Cobourne of West Virginia (1,139 in 1999 as a redshirt freshman) for third most rushing yards by a Big East freshman. Lewis’ total ranks second to only LeSean McCoy’s 1,328 yards by a true freshman in Big East history.
• DB Jarred Holley’s third quarter interception is the first of his career.
• DE Greg Romeus’ fourth quarter interception marks the first of his career.
• WR Oderick Turner’s 24 receiving yards on the day moves him into 10th place on Pitt’s all-time receiving yardage list with 1,669 career receiving yards. Turner is now 10th, surpassing Derek Kinder (1,646 from 2004-08).
• Pitt’s 4.13 sacks per game average entering the Syracuse contest led the nation. Pitt’s defense added another six sacks to their mark, for a total of 39.
