Victory by Pitt snaps the Dukes’ school record 24 game win streak.

January 28, 1939, Duquesne 40, Pitt 29

Duquesne defeats Pitt 40-29. The two teams will not play again until 1953.

Duquesne spoils the first Pitt-DU matchup in Fitzgerald Field House as it defeats the Panthers by 36 points. The 36-point win still stands as the largest ever for DU against Pitt.

Pitt’s first win vs. the Dukes since 1938 gives Panthers their first Steel Bowl title.
