Women's Cross Country Places Ninth at CMU Invite

PITTSBURGH—Led by freshman Megan DeGraaf, the University of Pittsburgh women’s cross country team finished ninth at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational, this morning. Held at Schenley Park, the Panthers recorded an average time of 22:24.51.
DeGraaf finished first for Pitt, placing 35th overall with a time of 21:15.90.
The next Panther to cross the finish line within the 21st minute was junior Alicia Lichvar.
Later, sophomore Brittany Giannotti recorded a 22:42.55 performance, while senior Kari Hedderick was the final member of Pitt’s cross country team to finish, turning in a time of 23:02.89.
In addition to the four cross country runners, Pitt’s track and field team also ran the course and recorded several strong performances. Junior Carrie Mavrikis was the fourth Panther to cross the finish line, claiming a time of 23:02.74.
Next, freshmen Rachel McIntosh and Amanda Kuhl placed in the top 100, with times of 23:24.69 and 24:11.01, respectively.
Pitt’s men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Princeton, N.J. on Saturday, Oct. 17, for the Princeton Invitational.
