PITTSBURGH — The Panthers will not get a break from competition as they hit the road once again this weekend. The men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the State Farm Games in Morgantown, W.Va.
The men’s team will count on senior Curtis Larimer to rake in some points. Larimer finished second in the 3000 meter run last weekend at the Penn State Open. While Larimer may not have captured the gold, his time of 8:29.59 was fast enough to smash the meet record by four seconds. Brione Reid-Carthan will also look to contribute. Reid-Carthan placed fifth in the 500 meter dash at Penn State and was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that came in fourth.
In the field events, Garrett Larkin should be a key factor. Larkin was the only male Panther to place in two field events last weekend. He came in fifth place in the shot put and ninth in the weight throw. Dan Kwiatkowski placed third in the shot put just ahead of Larkin with a throw of 16.02 m. Eric Jones and Florain Ijelu are likely to be the main contributors in the jumps. Jones placed fourth last weekend in the triple jump while Ijelu came in seventh in the long jump.
On the women’s side, Mycaiah Clemons has run well consistently and has placed in the top three in the 60 meter hurdles for the past couple of meets. Clemons has improved her times each week and should look to continue that success this weekend. At the Penn State open she notched an NCAA provisional time of 8.40.
The team should also look to Janessa Murphy in the long jump, while Da’Lynn Mills and Kari Weimerskirch are likely to score some points in the high jump. Sarah Anderson should also look to place after finishing third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put at Penn State.
The State Farm Games are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 and will begin at 10:00 am at the Shell Building.
