Track and Field Competes at Penn State Open

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s track and field teams continued action in the indoor season at the Penn State Open, held at Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
The men were led by the 4x400 meter relay team of Brione Redi-Carthan, Dontave Cowsette, Anthony Hobwana and Jerome Lowery, who ran a 3:15.26, taking fourth place. The brothers Lowery also paced the Panthers on the track with Jermaine taking eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.27 and Jeroma placing 11th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 49.77.
Reid-Carthan turned in a fifth place performance in the 500 meter dash, finishing at 1:04. 26. In the 3,000 meter run, Curtis Larimer posted a second place finish, crossing the line in 8:29.59.
On the field events side, Eric Jones placed fourth in the triple jump, soaring 14.93 meters. Florain Ijelu leapt 6.63 meters to finish seventh in the long jump. In the throwing events, Dan Kwiatkowski placed third in the shot put with a mark of 16.02 meters. Teammate Garrett Larkin finished close behind in fifth with a throw of 15.25 meters. Larkin was also ninth in the weight throw with a hurl of 15.69 meters.
On the women’s side, Mycaiah Clemons again led the Panther attack. She placed third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.40 and 13th in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line at 25.04. The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Kari Hedderick, Patricia Anyanwa, Anita James and Kaetlyn Brown placed fourth, coming in at 3:50.39.
The Panther women also found success in the field events, where Janessa Murphy led women jumpers with a second place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.86 meters and a eighth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 11.41 meters. In the high jump, Da’Lynn Mills was fifth with a mark of 1.65 meters while Kari Weimerskirch was eighth with a 1.60 meter jump.
Sarah Anderson was third in the weight throw with a mark of 16.15 meters and fourth in the shot put with a 12.71 meter toss.
The Panthers continue the indoor season, traveling south to Morgantown, W. Va. to compete in the State Farm Games.
