Men's Soccer Ties Duquesne 0-0 in Double Overtime

PITTSBURGH—The Pitt and Duquesne men's soccer teams played to a scoreless 0-0 double overtime tie before 450 fans Thursday night at Art Rooney Field. With the tie, Pitt is now 1-1-1 on the year, while Duquesne is 1-0-2.
Both teams had numerous opportunities to score in the contest. Pitt's Matt Baker rocketed a shot at the DU goal in the game's 55th minute. Pitt's E.J. McCormick had two shots on goal in the second half. Duquesne could not capitalize on a free kick opportunity in the 99th minute. Duquesne's Stefan Lundberg finished with a game-high five shots.
Duquesne, which entered the match ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA Middle Atlantic Region rankings, outshot Pitt 17-13. Both teams finished with four corner kicks.
Pitt goalkeeper Eric Barnes registered the shutout in playing the full 110 minutes and made nine saves including four in the second half. DU goalkeeper Chris Torres finished with five saves.
Pitt leads the seven-game series with a 5-0-2 record and has now claimed three of the last four meetings.
Pitt is next in action on Sunday when it plays its first home game against Robert Morris. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. at Founders Field.
