No. 19 USF Hands Men's Soccer 1-0 Loss

TAMPA, Fla.—No. 19 South Florida handed the Pitt men’s soccer team a 1-0 loss Friday at the USF Soccer Complex. The loss Pitt drops to 1-2-0 in the Big East and 5-3-1 overall while South Florida improves to 3-0-0 in the Big East and 5-1-1 overall.
South Florida scored its lone goal in the 27th minute when Zak Boggs finished off a crossing pass from Javed Mohammed. Andre Mittoo also registered an assist on the play. The goal would prove to be the evening’s only score.
Justin Boehm managed Pitt’s lone shot on goal in the 87th minute. South Florida outshot Pitt 15-4 and finished with eight shots on goal to Pitt’s one. All four Pitt shots were taken in the second half.
Pitt goalkeeper Eric Barnes made seven saves in the contest. Pitt has only allowed five goals in nine games played this year. Only one team—Albany (two)—has scored more than one goal against the Panthers.
The contest marked Pitt’s second match this season against a nationally ranked opponent. The Panthers defeated No. 20 Rutgers 1-0 on Sept. 19.
Pitt travels to Chicago for a match against DePaul on Sunday at 1 p.m.
