PITTSBURGH--Serafino "Foge" Fazio, whose deep ties to Pitt football include time as a player and coach, will join the Panthers radio crew this year as a color analyst.
Fazio will team up in the radio booth with play-by-play voice Bill Hillgrove and lead color analyst Bill Fralic, who was a three-time All-America offensive tackle under Fazio in the 1980s.
In addition to the game broadcast, Fazio will also contribute to Pitt's pregame show and do postgame locker room interviews.
"Foge is the true definition of a `Pitt Man,'" Athletic Director Steve Pederson said. "He played here, coached here and is wholeheartedly dedicated to the University of Pittsburgh. Foge has done some tremendous work on national radio broadcasts and it only seemed natural to bring his great passion and knowledge of the game back to Pitt.
"This promises to be an incredibly exciting season and I can't think of three better voices than the legendary Bill Hillgrove, one of our all-time greatest players in Bill Fralic and Foge Fazio to call all the action for our games."
Fazio was an All-East center and team MVP as a senior at Pitt in 1959. After playing for the Boston Patriots of the American Football League for one season, he would embark on a four-decade coaching career that included time in both the college and NFL ranks.
He would serve his alma mater as linebackers coach (1969-72; 1977-79), defensive coordinator (1979-81) and, ultimately, head coach (1982-85). Fazio was part of seven bowl teams at Pitt, including five that finished ranked among the nation's Top 10 at season's end.
The University of Pittsburgh and its multi-media rights holder, ISP Sports, provide the Panthers with thoroughly comprehensive radio coverage. Pitt football is broadcast on the Pittsburgh ISP Sports Network. Game broadcasts air over a loyal network of stations, including flagships 94.5 3WS (WWSW-FM) and Fox Sports Radio 970 (WBGG-AM).
Football game broadcasts include a two-hour football pregame show, postgame locker room interviews and "Panther Hotline," an hour-long call-in show that allows fans to weigh in on the day's action. Additionally, the weekly "Dave Wannstedt Show" airs live on Fox Sports Radio 970 from the Pittsburgh Steak Company (1924 East Carson Street) Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m.
