PITTSBURGH -
Members of the University of Pittsburgh track and field teams competed at the Tyson Invitational this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. Individuals from both the men's and women's team posted solid showings throughout the two-day event, including numerous top-20 marks.
All-American Mike Wray (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) impressed in the men's 60-meter hurdles as he turned in an eleventh-place time of 7.99 seconds in the prelims. He went on to better both his time and his place in the finals with an eighth-place mark of 7.94.
Freshman Antony Hobwana (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward School) recorded two top-20 times in the men's 60- and 200-meter dash events. His 6.82 in the 60 meters and 21.57 in the 200 were both season-bests and were fractions of a second away from a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA meet.
On the women's side, Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) placed 12th in the championship section of the long jump and Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Virginia Tech) clocked in at 8.58 in the 60-meter hurdles. Clemons' time bettered her season-best mark of 8.60 that she recorded at the Penn State National Open.
Pitt's next competition will be at the Big East Indoor Championships on Feb. 23-24 in New York, N.Y.
