Barnes Earns Three Medals at Canada Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ont.—Continuing to have success in the breaststroke events, Warren Barnes garnered three medals and set a meet record at the Canada Cup meet over Thanksgiving weekend. Barnes was swimming for the Scarborough Swim Club.
He seemed to save his best for last when he won the 50 breast on the final day of competition with a meet and club record at 27.86. Barnes’ time eclipsed the former standard of 27.88 in 2006. In the prelims of the 50 breast, Barnes finished second with a time of 28.60.
Earlier, he improved upon a first-place performance in the prelims of the 200 breast with a time of 2:13.15, which was another Scarborough club record. He placed first in the prelims with a time of 2:13.74, nearly three second faster than the second-place swimmer.
Surpassing another club record, Barnes took second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.59. This was faster than his first-place prelim time of 1:01.07.
Additionally, his sister Laura Barnes finished 27th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:13.17.
Barnes is s native of Pickering, Ontario, who graduated from Pitt in 2008 as the team MVP.
