PITTSBURGH - • Today's game was the first ever meeting between Pitt and Grambling State.
• Pitt is now 7-0 against NCAA I-AA (renamed the Football Championship Subdivision this year) opponents.
• Redshirt freshman quarterback Kevan Smith and freshman wideout Maurice Williams made their first collegiate starts today. Smith finished the day 15-22 for 202 yards and one touchdown.
• Freshman quarterback Pat Bostick saw his first collegiate action this afternoon.
• Redshirt senior Mike McGlynn made his first career start at right guard today. His previous 31 starts were all at right tackle.
• Redshirt sophomore Brian Kaiser blocked a Tim Manuel punt in the first quarter. It was Pitt's first blocked punt since Adam Gunn had one against Connecticut on Nov. 12, 2005.
• LeSean McCoy registered three rushing touchdowns today (the first of his careee), marking the first time that a Pitt rusher has scored three times since LaRod Stephens-Howling accomplished the feat last season against Central Florida (Oct. 13, 2006).
• McCoy's performance also marked the first time that a freshman running back scored three times since Demetrius Harris did it against Eastern Michigan (Sept. 9, 1995). He finished one score shy of the freshman record set by Elliot Walker, who had four versus Temple in 1974.
• McCoy finished the day with 107 yards. With that effort he becomes the first freshman to rush for 100 yards since LaRod Stephens-Howling ran for 101 yards against Syracuse on Oct. 22, 2005.
• Kevan Smith's 50-yard toss to Nate Byham late in the first half marked the first touchdown pass of his career.
• Kevan Smith's 61-yard completion to Oderick Turner marked Pitt's longest offensive play from scrimmage this season.
• Senior defensive back Lowell Robinson recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter of today's game.
• Sophomore tight end Nate Byham eclipsed his career-high for receiving yards in a game with 61. His previous high was 23 yards against West Virginia last season.
• Redshirt junior placekicker Conor Lee tied his career-high for field goals made in a single game with two. He has equaled that feat on three other occasions, the most recent coming last week against Eastern Michigan.
• Pitt has allowed only 13 points in its first two games this season. That mark is the lowest opponent total in its first two games since the Panthers allowed 9 total points in the first two contests of the 1990 campaign (Ohio, 3; Boston College, 6).
• Pitt's three interceptions were the most by a Panther defensive unit in one game since the 2005 season, when they picked off three passes against Connecticut (Nov. 12, 2005).
