The Bulls broke open the 0-0 game in the 39th minute when forward Andre Mittoo hit teammate Jordan Seabrook with a breakaway pass in front of an open Panther net, who finished the play for a 1-0 USF lead.
USF controlled the ball through most of the first half, tallying 11 shots to Pitt's three. The Panthers' defense played hard, denying the Bulls' offense another score.

Freshman midfielder Ryan Brode (Setauket, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) came within inches of giving Pitt the win with a shot in the 108th minute, but USF goalkeeper Diego Restrepo got just enough of his fingertips on the ball to deflect it wide-left.
Barnes (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken/George Mason) recorded seven saves on the day for the Panthers while Restrepo stopped five of Pitt's shots as the Bulls outshot the Panthers 20-8 in the game.
