RINCON, Puerto Rico--In his second attempt at a draft legal ITU triathlon, Pitt's assistant swimming and diving coach Eric Limkemann recorded an eighth-place finish at 1:56.05 in the ITU Pan American Cup Triathlon, despite the sweltering heat.
As usual, Limkemann opened the triathlon strong with a 1,500 meter swim, where he posted a 19:10 split and a second-place lead into the transition.
Next, Limkemann teamed with four other athletes in the 40k bike trek to catch the leader of the race on his new bike. Even though the leader stayed out of his reach, Limkeman stayed in front of the main pack and clocked in a split of 58.13.
"The BMC rode great in its triathlon debut and I felt comfortable the whole ride despite the heat."
After a slow start in the 10k run, Limkemann held onto sixth place while battling through the scorching heat. Limkeman finished the final phase of the triathlon with a time of 37:46 to claim his second straight top-10 finish.
"I started off feeling pretty bad and was passed by a few runners, but I regrouped and felt good by the second lap. I maintained my goal to finish in the top 10 in each of my races this year and earned a few more ITU points."
Limkemann heads to Philadelphia on June 24th for his next competition.
