PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's track and field team is headed to the Penn Relays this week in Philadelphia. The annual competition is one of the regular season's most exciting meets as it will feature numerous top-25 teams and several elite competitors on the national and international level. Pitt will mostly compete Thursday through Saturday and has been named a team to watch in the 100 and 200-meter relays.
The 100-meter relay team of Raquel Bender (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills), Shanea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross), Shantea Calhoun (New Haven, Conn./Wilbur Cross) and Janessa Murphy (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) has had three ECAC times this season. The squad ran a season-best 45.91 last weekend at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. The team also competed in the Sea Ray Relays and Texas Relays. Last season, the 400-meter relay team won the Big East title.
Pitt's 200-meter relay team of Bender, the Calhouns and either Mycaiah Clemons (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) or Katelyn Brown (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) has competed twice this season. With Clemons competing, the team ran a season-best 1:37.31 at the Sea Ray Relays. Brown competed with the team at the Texas Relays where they ran a 1:40.94.
The Penn Relays will be the team's final regular-season competition before the Big East Championships next weekend.
