
MEN WIN THREE EVENTS AT IUP OPEN

INDIANA, Pa. - Some of Pitt's middle and long distance runners competed at the IUP Open last weekend in Indiana, Pa. The men competed in four events and won three of them. Individual champions included Sam Bair, Curtis Larimer and Mike Long.
Bair (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kent State) recorded a regional-qualifying time in the 1,500 meters at 3:42.36. He is one of two middle distance runners from Pitt to qualify for regionals in this event. This performance was additionally a personal-best time.
Larimer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) won the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:37.51. Teammate Steve Gonzalez (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) came in second at 32:37.11. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Long (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville North) won the event with a time of 9:22.40 to qualify him for the Big East Championships.
Several team members also competed in the 800 meters. Eric Burnett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) led the group in third place with a personal-best time of 1:55.51. Lane King (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) took ninth at 1:58.83, and Mike Meade (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) came in 12th at 2:00.22.
The Panthers will travel to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia this weekend. This will be the team's final regular-season meet before the conference championships.
