PITTSBURGH-The Pitt men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Providence Sunday afternoon at Founders Field. The Friars captured their third-consecutive, shutout win while improving to 8-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the Big East as the Panthers fell to 2-11-2 and 0-7-1.

The Providence offense controlled the pace of the game, as it outshot Pitt 12-6. The Friars recorded one goal in each half for the game's final of 2-0.

Pitt forward Chris Wilcox (Pittsburgh, Pa./Peters Township) attempted to give the Panthers the lead in the 41^st minute with a hard shot in front of the Friar net, but the ball was batted down by a host of Providence defenders, keeping the score tied at 0-0.

With less than three minutes to play in the first half, Providence midfielder Ryan Maduro passed the ball up-field to teammate Alex Redding, who was waiting in front of the Panther net. Redding turned and shot, as Pitt goalkeeper Eric Barnes (Aiken, S.C./South Aiken/George Mason) deflected the ball back into play.

Friar midfielder Michael Narciso grabbed the rebound and shot into an open Panther net as Barnes was unable to recover from the previous save. Narciso's first goal of the season gave Providence the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the 77^th minute, Friar midfielder Justin Kahle tallied his first goal of the season as well off a free kick for the game's final of 2-0.

Barnes finished with a total of six saves on the day, while senior captain Matt Langton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and sophomore Mike McDade (Plum, Pa./Plum) recorded Pitt's only two shots-on-goal of the game.

The Panthers recognized their senior players and manager as well as their alumni prior to today's contest, while they honored former Pitt men's soccer player Scott Alexander at halftime by presenting his family with honorary jerseys.

Alexander was diagnosed with cancer in February and passed away shortly after in March. He played at Pitt under current head coach Joe Luxbacher from 1989 - 1992.

Pitt will host Notre Dame in its final home contest of the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m., before concluding its 2007 season on the road with games at Georgetown on Oct. 27, and Marquette on Nov. 3.
