Gold Wins Women's Swimming And Diving Blue-Gold Meet

PITTSBURGH--In the women's swimming and diving annual Blue-Gold meet, Gold was victorious with a 151-120 score.
The swimming events opened in a close race, as the Gold team sneaked by Blue in the 200 medley relay with a first place finish of 1:49.11. Earning the win for the team was sophomore Ryann Kishbaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), freshman Laura Barnes (Pickering, Ont./Dunbarton), senior Brittany Stevens (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr Mill's/Florida State) and freshman Danielle Scott (Bethlehem, Pa.).
As a captain of the Gold team, Stevens did her part with three first-place finishes on the day. She also won the 100 fly (57.60) and the 200 fly (2:10.16) in the meet. Sophomore Sophie Cross (Thornton, Pa./Glen Mills) finished second in the 200 fly (2:14.00) for the Gold sweep of the top two spots.
Barnes also led Gold with three first-place finishes as she won the 100 breast (1:07.28) and the 200 IM (2:11.31).
Another member of the opening relay that won more than one event was Kishbaugh with a victory in the 200 back (2:08.53).
Following the relay, Gold won the second event of the day as junior Stacie Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) touched the wall first at 1:54.65 in the 200 free. Placing second in the event was junior Agnes Mago (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos) for Blue at 1:56.29.
The other captain for Gold, Safritt also won the 50 free and the 100 free in the meet.
Freshman Katie Cutrell aided the Gold team with a first-place finish in the 500 free with a time off 5:06.72. Finishing second in the event for the Blue was junior Erin Meehan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East).
As the meet opened with diving, sophomore Margo Ekstrom (Erie, Pa./McDowell) led the Gold team to a first place finish in the 1M board with 140.10 points. Placing second for Blue was freshman Mallory Mullady (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) with 132.55 points, while Gold freshman Morgan Speece (Wyomissing, Pa.) recorded a third-place finish.
Sophomore Hanna Bratton (Lincoln, R.I./Moses Brown) won the 3M event for Blue with a score of 154.25, while junior Sabrina Jennings (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) placed second for Gold.
Winning another event for Blue was sophomore Lisa McDonnell (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) in the 100 back with a time of 58.26, while junior Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) won the 200 breast at 2:25.42.
In the final event of the day, sophomore Tiffany Malatesta (Vineland, N.J./Vineland), senior Colleen Sullivan (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), McDonnell and senior Kelly O'Hara (Voorhees, N.J./Timber Creek) led the Blue team to a first-place finish in the 200 free relay.
Pitt's swimming and diving team opens on the road, as it travels to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m.
