PITTSBURGH -
The Pitt cross country teams ventured to State College, Pa. today to compete in the National Open hosted by Penn State. The Panther men captured 14th place and the women finished 15th in the team competition.
Freshman Joshua Christopher (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) continued his strong string of performances and paced the Panthers - as he has done in every race this season - with a 52nd place time of 27:22. Senior Curtis Larimer (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) came in second for Pitt with a 66th place overall showing.
Sophomore Lane King (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) has also been a solid performer for Head Coach Alonzo Webb and once again showed his mettle with a time of 27:39, which was good for 73rd place.
Senior Eric Burnett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) and freshman Teddy Miller (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) rounded out the Panthers' top-five with times of 27:53 and 28:01, respectively.
The women also had some familiar faces in their top-five spots. Senior Amy Ruffolo (Wexford, Pa./Duquesne) posted a 70th place showing with a time of 22:39. Freshman Anna Yoney (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) finished 10 seconds behind Ruffolo and placed 78th.
Senior Ali Briggs (Washington, Pa./Washington) placed third for Pitt with a time of 23:10. Fellow senior Nikki Bielick (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) and freshman June Farley (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) finished back-to-back, capturing 128th and 129th places, respectively.
The Panthers will come back to Pittsburgh for their next competition, the CMU Invitational, tomorrow at the Schenley Oval. The men's race will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the women immediately following at 11:30 a.m.
