Clint Session Named Big East Defensive Player of the Week

University of Pittsburgh senior linebacker Clint Session has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Panthers' 38-13 season-opening victory over Virginia this past Saturday.

Session (Pompano Beach, Fla./Blanche Ely) spearheaded Pitt's swarming defensive effort by collecting nine tackles, two tackles for losses and a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown. He helped the Panthers limit Virginia to 211 yards in total offense, including a mere 52 rushing yards.

Session's interception return put the final touches on the 25-point victory and marked the first touchdown of his career. His two TFLs went for losses totaling eight yards.

The 6-0, 235-pound Sam linebacker has been a fixture for Pitt's defense since his freshman year. One of the hardest hitting defenders in the Big East, Session has all-star aspirations in his final collegiate season.

The Panthers (1-0) open Big East play this Friday, Sept. 8, at Cincinnati (1-0). The game will be a national ESPN2 telecast and kick off at 8 p.m.
