Bernard Lay Drafted by the New Orleans Saints

Cornerback Bernard Lay became the second Pitt player to be selected in the 2006 NFL Draft when he was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round on Sunday. Lay joined offensive lineman Charles Spencer, who was a third-round pick of the Houston Texans on Saturday.
Lay is the fifth Pitt defensive back in the last seven years to be drafted. The others were Hank Poteat (3rd round,
The Aliquippa, Pa., native joins the Saints after earning All-Big East each of the last two seasons. Lay earned first-team honors in 2005 and was a second-team pick in 2004.
This past year he was one of the nation's most productive corners, ranking second in the Big East and 12th nationally with an average of 1.27 passes defended per game. He totaled 29 tackles, 14 passes defended and three interceptions overall.
