POST-GAME QUOTES
Quoting Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon
"They out-rebounded us, we didn't shoot it great and they're good, so combine those three things and it pretty much sums it up. But if you told me we were going to lose the battle of the boards by 11 and have it still be a one point game with a minute left I would have been surprised. So, we did some good things. I thought our offense was good, I thought we took some good shots, we executed pretty well, but they got us battling the boards and we needed to win that."
"Probably the thing I'm most disappointed in is the transition baskets that they got early. It's amazing. Every time these teams have gotten together in the last five years, every game has been like this down to the end. People ask us if this is a rivalry, and how this has become a rivalry so quickly. It's not very common for a rivalry to come upon this quickly. Every game has a lot of riding on it. Every game has been a battle."
Quoting Connecticut Head Coach Jim Calhoun
"It was a hard fought basketball game. We're terrifically happy, and I'll go home and sleep exceptionally well tonight with this one. I feel wonderful about the win. I feel wonderful about the fact that our character and our toughness is being tested."
"This league is a bear. The thing that separates college basketball, many times, is just the emotion. I know I'm wiped out....It was just what makes college basketball special. When you're in an environment like this with the passion of the students and people, the passion of both teams and coaches, it's what makes our game just a wonderful, wonderful game."
"We're very fortunate to win, but I do think we outplayed them. I would have been disappointed if we lost, because I thought we outplayed them. They could have won the game, no question. The game was in doubt, no question. But I thought we did enough things to win the basketball game.
I have great respect for
