PITTSBURGH - ESPN's College GameDay built by the Home Depot returns to Pittsburgh on Saturday, September 3, for the much anticipated home-opener against Notre Dame. Hosted by Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso, the weekly sports show will broadcast live from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the Heinz Field Great Lawn. GameDay participation is free of charge and open to all football fans.
There are many transportation options for getting to Heinz Field on Saturday morning. Free parking is available in the Posvar Hall parking garage located in Oakland off of Roberto Clemente Drive from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A free shuttle service will be provided to and from Oakland to the GameDay set. Shuttle buses will board and drop-off from Bigelow Boulevard, located in-between the William Pitt Union and the Cathedral of Learning. Some parking will be available on the North Shore. The Pirates will be playing the Cubs at 12:35 p.m. that afternoon at PNC Park, so rates may vary.
In addition, Pitt Athletics encourages all students to stop by the William Pitt Union lawn on Friday to make signs for the broadcast.
A number of events will lead up to the GameDay broadcast, including a bonfire on Thursday evening 8:30 p.m. on the Cathedral of Learning lawn. The program includes performances by the pep band, cheerleaders and dance team as well as football video highlights. Pitt's new head coach Dave Wannstedt and the team's captains will be speaking as well.
