Carl Krauser Named Preseason Wooden All-America Candidate
8/5/2004
PITTSBURGH?University of Pittsburgh junior Carl Krauser was named one of 50 preseason men?s basketball All-America candidates Thursday by the John R. Wooden Award committee.
The top-50 candidates have been selected by a preseason poll based on last year?s individual performance and team records. The Wooden Award committee will release its Midseason Top-30 on CBS Sports in mid-January. The list will be narrowed to a 10-player Wooden All-America Team announced on Tuesday, March 29, 2005. One member of the Wooden Award All-America Team will be selected on April 9, 2005 as the recipient of the Wooden Award Trophy given to the nation?s ?Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year.?
Named the Big East Most Improved Player as Pittsburgh?s point guard in 2003-04, Carl Krauser led Pittsburgh in scoring (15.4 ppg), assists (4.5 apg) and free throw shooting (77.8). Krauser earned both USBWA All-District and NABC All-District First Team honors and was named to the All-Big East Second Team. He was also voted an Associated Press honorable mention All-America selection. In 64 career games and 33 starts, Krauser averages 10.7 points, 3.7 assists, 3.8 rebounds per game.
Pittsburgh and Head Coach Jamie Dixon returns three of its five starters in 2004-05?Krauser, senior forward Chevon Troutman and sophomore center Chris Taft?along with eight letterwinners from the 2003-04 squad. Last year, the Panthers finished 31-5, captured the Big East regular-season title outright and appeared in the NCAA Tournament?s ?Sweet Sixteen? for the third consecutive season.
