2004-05 Big East Men's Basketball Opponents Announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I.? The 2004-05 University of Pittsburgh men?s basketball team will play a 16-game Big East Conference schedule. Pittsburgh will face each of the 11 schools and play five of those squads two times apiece.
Home opponents at the Petersen Events Center include Connecticut, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Providence, St. John?s, Seton Hall, Syracuse and West Virginia.
The Panthers? 2004-05 road opponents include Boston College, Connecticut, Notre Dame, Rutgers, St. John?s, Syracuse, West Virginia and Villanova.
Pittsburgh?s five repeat opponents include Connecticut, Notre Dame, St. John?s, Syracuse and West Virginia. As normal, the Panthers will play eight home games and eight away contests.
?Similar to last year, our rise has provided us the opportunity to once again face the toughest schedule in the Big East,? Pittsburgh Head Coach Jamie Dixon said. ?The Big East always poses a tremendous challenge and year-in, year-out, is one of the nation?s toughest basketball conferences.?
Dates and times will be released when finalized in late August or early September.
Three starters? junior guard Carl Krauser, senior forward Chevon Troutman and sophomore center Chris Taft? return for the Panthers. Pittsburgh concluded its 2003-04 season with 31-5 overall and 13-3 Big East Conference record. The Panthers won their third straight Big East regular season title, advanced to their third straight NCAA Tournament ?Sweet Sixteen,? set the school-record for wins in a season (31) and finished the three-year era (2001-04) with a nation-leading .846 winning percentage (88-16).
