Moses spent the last two seasons tutoring the running backs at Stanford.
Wayne Moses, who served as running backs coach at Stanford the last two years, has been named the new running backs coach at the University of Pittsburgh, Head Coach Walt Harris announced today.
?Wayne is a veteran coach who will be an outstanding resource for our players on and off the field,? Harris said. ?We are thrilled to be able to secure a coach and person of his caliber. I?m certain his expertise will pay dividends for our running backs immediately.?
?I?m excited as can be about joining the Pitt family,? Moses said. ?Walt Harris has an outstanding reputation throughout the country and the opportunity to work for him is a thrill. I can?t wait to get to work.?
Moses has spent the last 14 years in the Pacific-10 Conference. In addition to Stanford, he tutored running backs at Southern California (2001), Washington (1997-2000), California (1996) and UCLA (1990-95). Some of the league?s most productive backs during that span played under Moses. Among his standout pupils were UCLA All-Americans Karim Abdul-Jabbar and Skip Hicks.
While at Washington he helped the Huskies lead the Pacific-10 and rank 16th nationally in rushing during the 2000 season. Moses has helped his teams to bowl games in eight of the last 11 years.
In 1989, Moses coached the wide receivers at New Mexico, including Terance Mathis, who set NCAA career records for receptions and receiving yards.
Moses? other coaching stops include San Diego State (1986-88), Rutgers (1984-85) and Bowling Green (1981-83). He served as a graduate assistant at NC State (1980) and Cal State Fullerton (1978).
A 1977 graduate of Washington with a degree in political science, Moses was a four-year letterman for the Huskies and a starter at cornerback his final two years. As a senior, he was a member of the Washington squad that defeated Michigan, 27-20, in the 1978 Rose Bowl for the Huskies? first win in Pasadena in 18 years.
He and his wife Rosalind have two daughters, Valerie (born Feb. 17, 1982) and Kimberly (born Aug. 14, 1986).
