PITTSBURGH--Defending Big East regular season champion and No. 13 ranked Pittsburgh (31-5, 13-3 Big East in 2003-04) plays its fourth game of the 2004-05 campaign Wednesday against St. Francis (Pa.). Tipoff is at 7 p.m. at the Petersen Events Center.
Pittsburgh (3-0) enters the contest after winning 12 of its last 15 contests. Pittsburgh has won 18 consecutive games against non-conference opponents since a Dec. 31, 2002 loss at Georgia. Last season, the Panthers finished 14-0 against non-conference opponents en route to 18 straight wins to open its season. Additionally, Pittsburgh has won 43 consecutive regular season non-conference home games. Against St. Francis (Pa.), Pittsburgh is a perfect 27-0 all-time. The Panthers own a 60-0 all-time record vs. the Northeast Conference including their 83-59 victory on Nov. 24 against crosstown Robert Morris. Pitt is a perfect 19-0 vs. St. Francis (Pa.) in home games and has defeated the Golden Flash by 20 or more points in each of the series? last three contests. The 2003-04 campaign saw Pittsburgh capture its third straight Big East regular season title with its third straight school-record 13-3 league season, advance to the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" for a third straight year and finish with a school record 31 wins. The Panthers also became one of just three schools to finish its third straight season ranked among the nation?s top-10 schools.
