No. 14 Boston College Defeats Men's Soccer 2-0
10/16/2004
NEWTON, Mass. ? The Pittsburgh Panthers men?s soccer team was defeated by their Big East rival Boston College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Pittsburgh moves to 3-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the Big East.
Pittsburgh goalkeeper Justin Lowery recorded 6 saves on the game. Issey Maholo notched two saves and registered his seventh shutout of the season. Boston College outshot Pittsburgh 14-8.
Charlie Davies scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season for Boston College during the match. Davies got the No. 14 Eagles on the board in the first half when he scored in the 28th minute. Uri Magen-David found the freshman in one-on-one coverage on the left side of the field. Davies took care of the rest, beating his defender and shooting past Lowery for the score.
Davies notched an insurance goal off a through ball from Richard Gavilanes with just over one minute left in the game for his second score of the day.
The Panthers had a chance to score early in the second half when awarded a direct kick after a Boston College foul. Freshman Steve Cavalier passed around BC?s defensive wall to junior Dwayne Grant-Higgins who found himself an open look at the net. Grant-Higgins fired wide right and the Panthers were unable to create another legitimate scoring opportunity during the game.
The Panthers will return home on Wednesday, October 20, to face Georgetown in a Big East Conference match. The game will be played at Founders? Field at 7:00p.m.
