PITTSBURGH
The top-50 candidates have been selected based on last year?s individual performance and team records. The Wooden Award committee will release its Midseason Top 30 on CBS Sports in mid January. The list will be narrowed to a 10-player Wooden All-America Team announced on March 30, 2004. One member of the Wooden Award All-America Team will be selected on April 10, 2004 as the recipient of the Wooden Award Trophy as the nation?s ?Most Outstanding Collegiate Basketball Player of the Year.?
Last year, Pittsburgh?s Brandin Knight was named to the 10-player Wooden All-America Team.
The Big East Conference led the nation with 11 nominees followed by the Big 12 (10), Pacific 10 (seven), Big 10 (five) and ACC (five).
Named a consensus All-District and All-Big East selection in 2002-03, Page returns for his senior season after leading the Panthers in scoring (12.2 ppg.). He netted double figures in 25 of 32 games, hit 48 percent of his field goal attempts (144-295), connected on 54 of 146 three-pointers and averaged 3.4 rebounds per game. In his three-year career, the six-foot-three-inch guard has started 92 of 100 games played, scored 1,116 points, hit 154 three pointers and averaged 3.0 rebounds.
Pittsburgh and head coach Jamie Dixon returns two of its five starters-- Julius Page and Jaron Brown?and six of its top nine letterwinners from the 2002-03 squad. Last year, the Panthers finished 28-5, won the school?s first-ever Big East Tournament title, captured its second straight Big East West title and appeared in the NCAA?s Sweet Sixteen for the second consecutive season.
