Men's Track and Field Dominates Akron Quadrangular Meet

PITTSBURGH?The University of Pittsburgh outdoor track and field team dominated the Akron Quadrangular meet this past weekend at the University of Akron. The Panthers had a total of 12 first-place finishes in the meet, including eight for the men?s squad and four for the women?s. Finishing first for the women?s squad was Kimberly Lyles (Somerset, N.J./Franklin), who won the 200 meters with a time of 24.14. Lamoy Stephens (Westmoreland, Jamaica/Manning?s) placed first in the 400 meters in 55.78, while Nicole Vann (Newport News, Va./Menchville) won the 100-meter intermediate hurdles in 14.09. The Panther 4x100 meter relay team captured top honors as well. On the men?s side, Andrew Jones (Kent, Ohio/Firestone) won both the 100 meters (10.74) and the 200 meters (21.52). Mike Stellefson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) also won two events, including the shot put (16.35m) and the discus (49.57m). Korey Gross (Burke, Va./Burke) captured the triple jump with a score of 13.97 meters, while Shawndel Daniel (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) placed first in the long jump (6.82m). The Panthers? 4x100-meter relay team and 4x400-meter relay team each won their respective relays as well. The Panthers are back in action this weekend as they travel to the annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
