PITTSBURGH- For the second consecutive season, Brandin Knight was named the University of Pittsburgh?s Most Valuable Player as the school honored its 2002-03 Big East Conference champion men?s basketball team with its annual awards banquet Tuesday at the Downtown Hilton. A record-setting crowd of approximately 500 alums, fans, coaches, family members, support staff and student-athletes attended the event.
The event featured an inspiring highlight video of the season, a speech from Interim Athletic Director Marc Boehm and a standing ovation for new head coach Jamie Dixon. Pittsburgh Panthers radio play-by-play voice Bill Hillgrove served as Master of Ceremonies.
Eight team awards were announced by head coach Jamie Dixon. Knight was named team Most Valuable Player for the second straight year after leading the Panthers in assists (6.3 apg), steals (2.1 spg) and averaging 11.2 points per game.
