Gymnastics Earns Academic Achievement Award With Top Team GPA
2/10/2003
PITTSBURGH ? The Pittsburgh gymnastics team, earlier ranked as high as 18th in the country by GymInfo, won the Academic Achievement Award as the University's top academic varsity sports team.
The team had a cumulative grade point average of 3.32 for the calendar year of 2002, winning its first Academic Achievement Award since the second year it was awarded. The first-place finish also continues a streak for the gymnasts as the only team that has finished in the top three every year.
Fifteen Panther gymnasts earned at least a 3.0 in one of the two semesters in 2002:
Marcy Blitz (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Sarah Gibson (Montville, N.J./Montville Township), Erika Goldberg (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern), Heather Launse (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), Lauren Musulin (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Ashley Petten (Galena, Ohio/Village Academy), Roslyn Singleton (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco-Quest), Leila Tait (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), Lisa Yarosh (Seymour, Conn./Seymour), Alyse Zeffiro (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem), Raya Mullin and Rebecca Singleton.
Diandra O'Connor (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) and Jennifer Easter earned perfect 4.0 GPAs during the 2002 calendar year for the Panthers.
