Pittsburgh Cross Country Competes in Second Duquesne Invitational

Both squads perform successfully, with the women's team placing second and the men's team finishing third.
PITTSBURGH?The Pittsburgh Panthers cross country teams raced in the second Duquesne Invitational of the season on Friday at Schenley Park. The women?s team placed second behind Duquesne, while the men?s team finished third.
Junior Lauren Shaffer (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) dashed to a first-place finish, running a time of 18:22. Also placing in the top 10 were sophomore Nikki Angstadt (Kutztown, Pa./Fleetwood), finishing sixth and senior Rachel Rothe (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry), placing seventh with times of 18:53 and 18:55, respectively.
For the men?s squad, freshman Eric Fleming (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) was the first Panther to cross the finish line placing fifth with a time of 26:04. Placing eighth was freshman Andy Tomaswick (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highland) with a time of 26:12 and fellow freshman teammate Jesse Mang (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) ran to a 13th place finish in 26:29.
Both teams are back in action October 31st, when they will compete at the Big East Championships in Van Courtland Park, N.Y.
