COLLEGE PARK, Md. ? The Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team dropped to 3-5 in dual meets with a tough 166-77 loss to No. 15 Maryland on Friday evening.
Freshman Amy Miteff (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) and sophomore Jennifer Koch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) were the Panthers' only event winners with a tie for first place in the 200 butterfly. Both swimmers touched the wall in 2:05.42. For Miteff, it also tied her season-best in the event, which she also accomplished at Washington on Oct. 19.
The Panthers did have several second-place finishers. Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott) took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.25 seconds, 0.39 off of the pace set by Cynthia Weir. Livingstone was also Pittsburgh's top finisher in the 100 free with a fourth-place time of 52.99 seconds.
Freshman Nicole Ebert (Spring, Texas/Klein) had another second-place finish for the Panthers in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:00.02. Senior Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace), who was fourth in the 500 free, took second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:16.55, nearly 18 seconds behind the winner, Elizabeth Lavell of Maryland.
Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) managed third-place finishes in both the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley, earning three points in each race for the Panthers.
Freshman diver Colleen Kristobak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished in second place on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Kristobak had 259.87 points in the 1-meter competition and 279.97 points on the 3-meter board.
The 400 medley relay team of Savini, Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Kelli Tielking (Damascus, Md./Damascus), and Livingstone finished in second place for four points with a time of 3:50.28, 2.33 seconds behind Maryland's top team.
The Panthers travel to Villanova today to take on the Wildcats in a Big East dual meet.
