Postcards From Camp: Bryan Anderson
8/10/2002
Bryan Anderson
Senior Right Guard
How did it feel to strap your pads back on and begin training camp?
It was fun actually. Today was probably the most fun I?ve had at any camp practice since I?ve been here. We haven?t hit anybody since spring practice. It was a good time. There was a lot of energy out there. Everybody is really looking forward to the season, trying to give their best here at camp. There was a lot of spirit. Everybody was looking forward to hitting and playing football again.
What are you hoping to gain from training camp?
I hope everybody makes it through healthy. I would really like to improve on my run blocking and pass-blocking techniques, and so do all the other offensive linemen. I think we need to come together more as a team, and get the offense in sync. The defense is always ready to go. We just need to get the offense to step it up. The offense involves a lot more timing. The quarterbacks and the receivers have to get in sync. Rod?s (
On being a preseason Outland Trophy Award nominee:
That?s actually a shock. I was not expecting anything like that. I?ve been reading the magazines and one had me as a second-team all-American, and another one had me as the No. 9 offensive guard, which honestly just baffles me. I appreciate the confidence the sports writers have in me. Hopefully at the end of the year, I?ll be one of the finalists.
I try. I really don?t like screaming and hollering at people on the field. I talk to players off the field more than I do on the field. I?ve helped some people with some problems off the field as well as on the field.

Just in this first practice, I really think we?ve jelled. We?ve really come together. Danny (LaCarte), he has done an amazing job. I think he has played just about every position you could play him at. Danny is a heck of a player, and so are
How is your overall strength and conditioning as you begin practice?
I think this is the strongest and best conditioned I?ve been since I?ve been here.
How is the team?s strength and conditioning entering the season?
This is probably the strongest and well-conditioned Pittsburgh Panther football team that I have been a part of.
How do keep yourself motivated during the ?dog days? of camp?
This is my last camp so I?m looking to get everything I can out of it. We have some guys that just keep going. Guys like Tyre Young and Gerald Hayes and those guys on the defense that are constantly going.
What are your expectations for this team?
Right now, I want to win the Big East. I?m tired of going 5-6 and 7-5. Last year, we barely made it to a bowl game. Nobody goes to a college just to finish third or fourth in your division. We got a lot of tough teams in the Big East and hopefully we?ll come out on top.
What are you individual expectations?
I would like to make it to the NFL. If that does not happen, it?s on to work.
