Bryan Anderson Named to Outland Trophy Watch List
8/10/2002
University of Pittsburgh senior offensive guard Bryan Anderson has been named to the Watch List for the prestigious Outland Trophy, annually presented to college football?s top interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America.
The 6-5, 320-pound Anderson (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram) has been a mainstay on Pittsburgh?s offensive line the last three years. With 34 career starts at right guard, he is the Panthers? most experienced offensive performer. Anderson has never missed a game during his college career (35 total games) and figures to be a leader for Pittsburgh?s offensive front that returns all five starters from last season.
?Bryan is coming off his best spring and that?s really encouraging,? Pittsburgh offensive line coach Tom Freeman said. ?You love to have a fifth-year senior enter his final season coming off that kind of effort in the spring. As a four-year starter, Bryan is really asserting his leadership and veteran knowledge. We are really depending upon him this year.?
The Outland Trophy has been presented every year since 1946 and is the third oldest award in major college football. Mark May, who starred for the Panthers from 1977-80 at offensive tackle, earned the Outland Trophy following his senior season in 1980.
Pittsburgh opens the 2002 season Aug. 31 at Heinz Field against Ohio. Kickoff time is set for 7 p.m. For season-ticket information contact the University of Pittsburgh Ticket Office at (800) 643-PITT or (412) 648-PITT.
