Women's Swimming and Diving Rolls Over West Virginia

PITTSBURGH-The Pittsburgh women's swimming and diving team evened its dual meet record to 3-3 and earned its first Big East victory with a convincing 173-68 win over host West Virginia at the WVU Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers won 10 of 13 events en route to its first dual meet win since defeating Syracuse on Oct. 27, 2001. Junior Emily Colley (Pace, Fla./Pace) was the Panthers' top swimmer on the day, winning three individual events. Colley topped teammate Rubi Cisneros (Monterrey, Mexico/Monterrey) in the 1000 freestyle by over four seconds in winning the event with a time of 10:24.19. Colley was also the winner in the 500 freestyle (5:04.00) and in the 200 butterfly (2:08.99) for the Panthers.
Pittsburgh (3-3, 1-2 Big East) swept the two relay events, winning the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:45.76, more than five seconds faster than Pittsburgh's 'B' team. The winning team consisted of Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit), Ryan Redman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), Kelli Tielking (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and Lindsay Weaverling (Lansing, Kan./Leavenworth). The Panthers also won the 400 freestyle relay with the team of Weaverling, Jenny Livingstone (Endwell, N.Y./Union-Endicott), Redman and Karen Thibodeau (Waterloo, Ontario/Bluevale Collegiate) in 3:35.37.
Other individual winners for the Panthers included Lacey Hlavka (Fairfax Station, Va./Hayfield) in the 200 freestyle (1:57.91), Savini in the 200 IM (2:10.15), Thibodeau in the 200 backstroke (2:05.31), Jen O'Brien (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) on the 3-meter board (284.4 pts.) and Kristina DeWitt (Houston, Texas/Stratford) in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.55).
The Panthers will host Maryland and Big East rival Villanova in a two-day, tri-meet this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19, at Trees Pool. Competition will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
