MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Tim Lyles scored 17 points, including a driving layup with 18 seconds left to lift West Virginia to a 69-68 victory over Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
West Virginia (13-7, 4-5 Big East) blew a double-digit lead and won despite making a season-low 6-of-17 free throws. The Mountaineers avenged a 17-point loss at Pitt a week earlier.
Ricardo Greer scored 25 points for Pittsburgh (12-10, 4-7), which lost for the third straight time.
The game was tied eight times in the second half before Lyles' 3-pointer gave the Mountaineers a 67-66 lead with 2:18 remaining. Greer's rebound basket with 32 seconds left gave Pittsburgh back the lead.
After a timeout, Lyles took an inbounds pass, drove into the lane and hit an off-balanced shot between two defenders.
West Virginia's Calvin Bowman tied up Brandin Knight's shot attempt with 1.2 seconds left. Pittsburgh got the ball back on the alternate possession call, but Knight's inbounds lob pass to Julius Page was broken up as time expired.
Bowman finished with 12 points. Josh Yeager had 11 and Chris Moss 10.
Donatas Zavackas had 12 points for Pittsburgh.
