Pittsburgh's Already Strong Class Gets Stronger
2/12/2001
PITTSBURGH - Already boasting its strongest recruiting class in recent memory, the University of Pittsburgh added another recruit today by signing Dale Williams, an All-State offensive lineman from Erie Cathedral Prep.
The 6-5, 290-pound Williams starred for an Erie Cathedral Prep team that went 14-0, captured the Pennsylvania Class AAAA championship and was ranked No. 2 in the country by ESPN and No. 4 by USA Today last year. He was named to The Associated Press Big School All-State Team (first team) and additionally earned All-Metro League and All-Allegheny Conference honors.
"We're excited Dale and his family have decided the University of Pittsburgh is the best place for his academic and athletic future," said Head Coach Walt Harris. "He was outstanding on the football field and in the classroom at Cathedral Prep and we're really looking forward to having him join us this fall."
Williams is rated the No. 26 prospect in Pennsylvania by SuperPrep and was named All-Eastern Region by PrepStar. Pittsburgh now boasts nine All-State performers from Pennsylvania among its 2001 recruits.
Williams is the second Cathedral Prep player to sign with Pittsburgh this year, joining Joe Dipre, a first-team All-State linebacker.
In breaking down Pittsburgh's 23 signees by position the Panthers inked six running backs, five defensive linemen, four wide receivers, two defensive backs, three linebackers, two offensive linemen and one tight end.
