BOSTON (AP) - William Green ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns as Boston College beat struggling Pittsburgh 45-7 Saturday, handing the Panthers their worst loss in nearly five years.
Brian St. Pierre, who finished 14-of-21 for 241 yards, threw three scoring passes, all in the first half, as the Eagles (5-2, 3-1 Big East) opened a 35-7 lead.
The loss matched Pittsburgh's most lopsided under coach Walt Harris. The Panthers (1-5, 0-3) lost the 1998 season finale 52-14 to West Virginia. Pittsburgh has lost five straight since a season-opening 31-0 win over East Tennessee State.
The Panthers took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards in six plays to take a 7-0 lead on Rod Rutherford's 1-yard run 2:54 into the game.
But Pit was held to 52 yards for the remainder of the half while Boston College piled up 307. Green had 109 yards and 17 of his 29 carries, and St. Pierre threw for 174 yards in the first half.
The Eagles tied the game on St. Pierre's 3-yard TD pass to Jamal Burke with 4:55 left in the first quarter.
BC went ahead on Green's 1-yard score late in the first quarter. The touchdown was set up by Green's 26-yard run on the prior play, when he broke three tackles and dragged a fourth Pitt defender along before being stopped.
Green had just 74 yards on 21 carries in the Eagles' 34-20 loss at No. 6 Virginia Tech a week earlier.
The Eagles broke it open by scoring on their next three possessions. Green's 12-yard TD run made it 21-7 midway through the second quarter. One play after they got the ball back, the Eagles made it 28-7 when St. Pierre hit Keith Hemmings with a 58-yard scoring pass along the right sideline.
St. Pierre's 26-yard scoring pass to tight end Sean Ryan made it 35-7 with just under two minutes left in the half. That came one play after St. Pierre hit Ryan with an 18-yarder.
Green's third touchdown run of the game, a 1-yarder, made it 42-7 in the third quarter. Kevin McMyler's 28-yard field goal completed the scoring.
