University Park, Pa. - The University of Pittsburgh's men's and women's cross country team traveled to University Park to participate in the annual Spiked Shoe Invitational on the campus of Penn State. The men placed 12th in the 23-field team, while the women finished 13th in a 25-team field.
The men were paced by Mike Diano (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills). Diano completed the 5.2-mile course in 26:52.90 to finish 46th. The freshman was additionally the Panthers' top finisher the previous week. Senior Mike Head (New Kinsington, Pa./Valley) was close behind, finishing 52nd with a time of 27:00.51. Head paced the Pittsburgh in its season opener at West Virginia.
For the third consecutive meet, junior Amanda Schmidt (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) led Pittsburgh. Schmidt finished the 6,000-meter course in 23:00.87 to place 55th.
