Gymnastics Places Fifth at Region 5 Championships

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The Pittsburgh gymnastics team concluded its 2000 season after competing in the NCAA Region 5 Championships hosted by Penn State on April 1. The Panthers placed fifth as a team with 191.850 points behind first-place Michigan (196.550).
Senior Pam Lieberman (Parkland, Fla./Stoneman Douglas) finished 11th in the all-around after placing 38th on vault, 23rd (tied) on the uneven bars, 29th on balance beam and 38th on floor exercise. Danielle "Freddie" Alba (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) finished finished closely behind Lieberman in a tie for 13th in the all-around competition.
Freshman Nathalie Sulpher (Ottawa, Canada/Franco Quest) led the Panthers on vault with a score of 9.675, placing her 17th (tied). Senior Samantha Salyers (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) earned a 9.775 to lead the bars contingent, placing 15th (tied). Senior Lisa Fronhofer (Salem, N.Y./Salem) led Pittsburgh on both beam and floor, finishing 16th (9.700) and 20th (9.750), respectively. Freshman Jennifer Easter (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) also tied with Fronhofer on floor with a 9.750.
