Women's Gymnastics Falls to New Hampshire

DURHAM, N.H.- The University of Pittsburgh women's gymnastics team lost a 193.575-190.475 away contest to East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL)-rival University of New Hampshire Sunday, March 8. In the loss, the Panthers registered several individual season-high scores and a season-high team score on vault.
In the vault, Pittsburgh fiinished second with a season-best score of 48.40, while New Hampshire scored a 48.575. The Wildcats' Jill Cavalleri won the event with a 9.825, while Panther senior Calli Bodnar (Graytown, Ohio/Oak Harbor) registered a season-high score and tied for second with New Hampshire's Karen Wisell with a score of 9.725. Pittsburgh's Erika Flamer (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored a season-high 9.7 and tied for third on the event with New Hampshire's Denise Gregoria.
Pittsburgh won the uneven bars with a score of 47.80, while New Hampshire was second with 47.35 points. Pittsburgh sophomore Samantha Salyers (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) placed second in the event with a score of 9.8, behind first-place Wildcat finisher Anne Woyerowski with a 9.85. Pittsburgh's Janet Highhill (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) recorded a season-best score on the event with a 9.7 and tied for third with New Hampshire's Wendy Wheaton.
On the balance beam, Pittsburgh finished second with a score of 47.65 and had two gymnasts receive season-high scores. Senior Kristin Bond (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and senior Joy McElhinny (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) scored a 9.7 and 9.15, respectively, marking season-best scores for each.
The Panthers finished the contest with a second-place score of 46.625 on the floor exercise, behind New Hampshire's score of 48.70.
Pittsburgh returns to action Saturday, March 14 when they host Towson at Fitzgerald Field House at 7 p.m. in their final regular- season contest.
