In an effort to learn more about our glorious past, and to share stories of success and pride - like yours - the Varsity Letter Club, is reaching out to numerous former letter winners to obtain updates on them since their time at Pitt. Please take a moment to complete this questionnaire and return it to the PITT Varsity Letter Club. Providing this information will help us update our files and allow us to learn more about our storied athletic history, your professional (working) career path and other accomplishments since your time at Pitt. It will also provide us with data that may be used to celebrate your current and past accomplishments. Please know the information on this form is confidential and will only be used by the PITT Varsity Letter Club.

VARSITY LETTER CLUB

All letterwinners are members of the Varsity Letter Club. However, we want and need you to become active members. The VLC has established a proud tradition of service and commitment to the University of Pittsburgh and to the Department of Athletics. Through annual membership dues ($100 annual dues for active membership), you can become a part of the tradition once again and help to strengthen the programs of which we are all proud to say we were a part.

For more information on the Varsity Letter Club, contact Varsity Club Coordinator Dan Stephens at 412-648-1085.

History

Founded in 1931 under the devoted leadership of Executive Secretary George I. Carson, the Pitt Varsity Letter Club has existed to promote excellence in both academics and athletics at the University. Throughout its history, the Club has provided financial support, leadership, social interaction, and valuable networking for our athletes and programs. Over the years, the VLC has provided scholarship support to undergraduate student-athletes, purchased equipment for Olympic sports and subsidized travel to Olympic trials for athletes who would not have been able to do so without the club's assistance. For the past few years, the VLC has also awarded graduate school grants to qualifying student-athletes.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Pitt Varsity Letter Club is to support the University of Pittsburgh and its Department of Athletics by fostering enduring relationships between varsity letterwinners and the University. The Pitt Varsity Letter Club endeavors to strengthen bonds among former varsity letterwinners, to champion an environment in which current student-athletes can achieve athletic and academic excellence and thereby promote the proud tradition of intercollegiate athletic competition at the University of Pittsburgh.

Benefits

Membership in the Pitt Varsity Letter Club provides multiple benefits to former letterwinners that enable them to keep up with current activities of their sport, the athletics program as a whole, and the University.

Benefits include:

  • Priority points and seating
  • Invitations to Panther Club Events
  • Window decal
  • Away-game and post-season ticket priority
  • Recognition in next season's football program

Perhaps the greatest benefit of membership in the VLC is knowing that you are supporting the Varsity Letter Club Endowed Scholarship, which was established in 1992 with a gift of $10,000. Thanks to contributions from former letterwinners, this scholarship provides financial assistance to our undergraduate student-athletes. It is not designated for a specific sport, but is awarded annually based on nominations from all varsity coaches.
