Holstein, Cooper, and Gulley showcase Pitt’s off-field development in local TV appearance
PITTSBURGH—Pitt Football made a flavorful appearance on KDKA's Talk Pittsburgh this week, as quarterback Eli Holstein, center Lyndon Cooper, and team nutritionist Katie Gulley joined hosts Heather Abraham and Boaz Frankel for a special cooking segment spotlighting how the Panthers fuel their performance.
Together, the group assembled "burger bowls," a protein-packed favorite among the team, while sharing insight into the care Pitt provides its student-athletes. As Gulley guided the hosts and players through the build-your-own meal, she emphasized the importance of personalized nutrition, life skills education, and treating every player like family.
"I get a lot of feedback from our team, and then I work with our performance staff to find the balance between what a dietitian recommends and what their bodies actually need," Gulley explained during the segment. "Because they're so busy with football, life skills, class, and community service, we always preach preparation—grab protein and carb snacks for later in the day or tomorrow to meet the demands of the season."
Gulley also touched on her collaborative approach with Pitt's strength, athletic training, and mental health staffs, reinforcing the program's commitment to full-person development. She highlighted the life skills aspect of the nutrition program as well, including cooking classes, budgeting education, and helping players learn how to take care of themselves off the field.
Holstein and Cooper added their own flavor to the segment, sharing favorite meals, off-field experiences, and the impact Pitt's nutrition and life skills teams have had on their daily routines.
You can find Gulley and the rest of the performance staff fueling the Panthers this fall at Acrisure Stadium. Pitt football season tickets start as low as $230 for seven games in 2025. For more information, go to PittsburghPanthers.com, call (800) 643-7488 or email tickets@athletics.pitt.edu.
